Following the Breadcrumbs IX: Stor e Telling September October 2003

Hansel and Gretel

Frank  Adams, 1928

I am traveling back in time and updating all of my Stor e Telling columns for Storytelling Magazine since 2002 I have checked all of the links, updated those that have new URL's and deleted others that have found their way to the Internet graveyard. Through the summer and beyond I will continue to update the columns and post them on my blog until all of the breadcrumbs lead to the end of 2006. At the end of the blog you will find links to the columns from 2007 – 2013.

I continue to write for Storytelling Magazine but will not be adding current columns until the following year. If you want immediate access to the newest websites, consider becoming a member of the National Storytelling Network.

Please feel free to comment on the blog and let me know if you find this useful.

Absolutely Whootie: Stories to Grow By
Multicultural folktales searchable by continent and country; free writing assignments and play scripts as well. It also offers stories categorized by themes to foster positive behavior and reinforcement. You’ll be wise as an owl in no time at all.

Legends of Guam
Nineteen legends from this beautiful island; their main page also offers insight into this ancient culture. On one page I found this proverb from the Chamorra people, "I erensia, lina'la', espiritu-ta," which means "Our heritage gives life to our spirit.” A storyteller could have written those words. http://ns.gov.gu/legends.html

National Council of Teachers of English
The NCTE’s position statement on the value of storytelling in the classroom.

Stories Go All Around
This Canadian site uses the art of storytelling to remind children and adults the importance of their own stories. It offers a collection of stories, information on integrating storytelling into the curriculum, and choosing, learning and telling stories. * This rich link is no longer active but I was able to find it via the Wayback Machine.  The pdf files still work so you may easily access the information.

The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators
A page turner for those interested in writing and illustrating children's literature; they have also compiled a forty-seven page reference of books
